Introduction
Welcome to the homepage of Fulmer IT, your one-stop shopping location for all things computer related in the Chemistry Department. The links on your left are provided to help you accomplish common tasks on your own. The FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) is a good place to start if you're wondering about software or your computer in general. Mission
Enhance the academic and research environment of the Chemistry Department (heretoforinafter referred to as the Department)
Goals
- Make access to computers and applications convenient
- Make data secure
- Add new applications, available to all
- Maintain the fiscal and legal integrity of the Department
Policies
We have a few policies that we enforce. The policies increase efficiency and reliability.
- We don't lend tools. We did that and the tools are still out there somewhere.
- We don't lend CDs. We need the CDs for our work.
- Please back up your data before bringing your PC to us, when possible. If the PC doesn't work, then we understand. And we do our best to copy data before we unleash the fury on your PC but sometimes we miss things.
- We like to do things a certain way. When we set up a PC, we do it our way, and we know the PC will do the things it should (like network and print), be secure, and be as useful as it can be for you (e.g. only asks for a password once). As Henry Ford stated "you can have your Model T in any color you like, as long as it's black."
- We have two configurations for PCs: the "office" PC and the "instrument" PC. Office PCs require a logon and can surf the web. Instrument PCs do not have a logon but cannot surf the web or be seen from outside of Fulmer. New PCs are set up in one of these two configurations.
